Silly goose,
some symbol of pride you are
Standing uncomfortable on the frozen remains
of what was once home
Silly goose,
too dim and spoiled to fly south.
Befuddled you squawk
in sub zero dawn
Silly goose,
you seem surprised.
Your home at the auto complex
no longer bears reeds and slime
Silly goose,
how long has it been?
You lived there contented
amid the vent stacks and tractor trailers
Silly goose,
don’t you see your folly?
Blindly living out your years
amongst the industry and litter
Silly goose,
Did you see past the edge of the reeds?
How could you not know
the travesty that surrounded you?
Silly goose,
I know people like you.
They ignore the encroaching world
Secure in their own little realms
Silly goose,
are you so different after all?
We are merely squatters too
Claiming all we see
Silly goose,
tell me how it feels.
So we will be ready
when our time comes
Silly goose,
we are coming to join you.
Perhaps you are a fitting symbol
…….for us silly geese.
