                            SOUTH

When the sky turns grey and the cold wind blows
and then the daily threat of the winter snows.
with dread we think of the long cold nights
and the brief daytime and the Northern Lights.
the time has come when to feel alive,
we head down South where we're sure to thrive.
thank you Lord, it's just three hours away,
and the price is right if you want to stay.
this heaven on Earth is where the tired go,
you can play on the beach and it doesn;t snow.
where there are things to do every day,
you get twice as much for the cash you pay.
St Petersburg, Florida, home of eternal youth
where you'll drop the years, and that's the truth.
you settle in after a short plane ride,
a smile on your face you just cant hide,
down to the beach, hand in hand,
feel the pleasant warmth of the clean white sand.
watch the little sand-crabs scuttle along,
hear the whippoorwill with his plaintive song.
something is happening, it's the fresh salt air,
it's the Florida feeling that draws us there.
we can forget for a while the snow and sleet
while we're on the sands paddling our feet.
and when the last days of march are almost here,
and the last days in St Pete are drawing near,
we yearn again for our North Homeland
say goodbye to the warmth and the silver sand,
but before we go, we'll reserve a place for next year,
and we'll be back again you all, never fear.
